What are Sewer Backups, and what causes them?
Sewer Backups can occur at any time un-expectancy. These backups happen due to heavy rainfalls or floods. Due to the excess water it causes the sewage backup to flow into the city sewer lines, this will cause an odor in your house as it enters through your drain pipes. The smell is very unhealthy for your property and yourself not to mention it smells horrible. Sewer Backups also can cause excess water to come up from your toilet, bathtub, sink, improper disposal of grease, and tree roots. Everyday a person can contribute to sewer backups by flushing, hair, food, and other small waste items that are pushed down your drains.
So how do you protect your property from sewer backups?
Its simple, if you have a basement in your house or if the ground floor is above street level you are at a bigger risk for sewer backups. To protect your property you need to install a backwater valve onto the main sanitary drain.
