What is Backflow?
Backflow is the undesired reversal of water or mixtures of water that flow against the normal direction. It occurs because of a cross-connection within the water system. Backflowing water in your business, or home plumbing system can endanger your family as the water system can become contaminated with pollutants that are harmful to anyone that uses the water.
What causes Backflow?
Back flow is caused by cross-connections that may have the potential of allowing contaminants into your drinking water system. There are two main causes of backflow one being back Siphonage, and the second being Back pressure.
Back Siphonag occurs when the pressure in a tank or water is lower then the water system’s pressure. This can cause the result of pulling contaminated water into the water system.
Back Pressure occurs when there is higher water pressure in a fire protection system or a multi-story building. Causing the contaminated water to be forced into the publics water system.
